We know that exercise is important for our dogs, and one of the easiest ways to get enough is to visit a dog park. Dog parks give your dog a chance to run and play with other dogs, and it can be a fun way to meet other dog lovers in the community. Here are some of the top dogs parks in the Central Ohio area:
Worthington: Godown Park
Godown park has a one-acre small dog area and a 4.5-acre large dog area. There is also a dog water fountain and benches.
Blacklick: Big Walnut Park
Big Walnut Park is a city-owned and operated park right at the corner of I-70 W and I-270 N. This large park has separate areas for small and large dogs, but does not have water access for dogs.
Lewis Center: Alum Creek Dog Park
This dog park is hugely supported by volunteers. There is both a large and small dog area, plus a dog beach on Alum Creek Lake. This is a great park for dogs that love to swim.
Brewery District (Downtown): Scioto Audubon Metro Park
This large, downtown park has a 2.5-acre dog park with separate areas for large and small dogs, plus an agility course. There are also designated pet trails for you to take your dog on with a leash.
Victorian Village (Downtown): Wheeler Dog Park
This smaller dog park has 1.5 acres of enclosed land for off-leash play. It also has a water pump, tables, and benches.
Westerville: Brooksedge Dog Park
Westerville’s dog park actually has three separate encloses areas. The three sections rotate: One for small dogs, one for large, and one reserved for regrowth. There are also fountains, climbing toys, and tennis balls available for play.
Gahanna: Pooch Playground
The Pooch Playground has 2 acres for your furry friend to play. There are separate areas for large and small dogs.
Delaware: Companion Club Dog Park
Companion Club Dog Park is the only membership-required park on this list. However, it has 11 full acres for you and your dog to explore and play. There is a pond and agility courses as well.
West Jefferson: Prairie Oaks Metro Park
This large park has many hiking trails that you and your dog can explore, on-leash. There is also a doggie beach with swimming.
Hilliard: Spindler Dog Park
Thiis park contains a side for small dogs and one for large dogs. Parking available (including spots for handicap visitors). Portable restroom, picnic tables, and a kiosk on-site. Park contains a drinking fountain. Rules are posted. Visitors are asked to remove all items they brought. (Examples: water bowls, dog toys, etc.)
